Filipinos honored at Creative Emmy Awards

Filipino-American creative talents brought home coveted trophies at the 2011 Creative Emmy Awards in Los Angeles on September 10. Filipino proud indeed!

Fil-Am choreographer Napoleon D’umo, and his wife Tabitha won for their outstanding work on the TV dance contest “So You Think You Can Dance.”

“Growing up, going to parties, karaoke and back up dances – it’s working for us,” D’uomo said.
University of the Philippines graduate Anthony Ocampo, was nominated for his work as the lead visual effects animator in the TV series “The Walking Dead.”

“Ginawa ko ‘yung mga 3D zombies for ‘[The] Walking Dead,’ especially the gory stuff, the entrails, the guts, and the walking zombies,” said Ocampo.

Ocampo moved to the U.S. in 2000, not expecting to be an overnight success.

“When I got here, instantly, they put me on big shows where I had to do photo-realistic 3D. I was blown away, but I had to hit the ground running,” said Ocampo.

He has already won a Visual Effects Society award and continues to work on popular shows like “Pan Am” and “Grey’s Anatomy” where he got his first Emmy nod in 2007.

Though he didn’t win this time, he said he owes much of his success to the training he got in the Philippines.
