GoodHousekeeping – The Maid Manual

Ever since we arrived here in Manila, we are doing house chores – cleaning, grocery shopping, cooking – on our own. It was in the middle of this year that we decide to get a household helper. We need an extra hand specially during the last trimester of my pregnancy.

Just this week, I received my own copy of The Maid Manual by Tisha Bautista.  This book was published by Summit Media Publishing last year.

I have not read the whole book yet but was able to scan through all of the pages. I have skipped the section of finding help (conducting an interview,  hiring) as our parents did that part for us already. I love the second part which discusses the basics and necessary things to take note in training the staff for cleaning the different areas of the house.  The third section of the manual covers employee benefits, and how to keep and motivate your staff.  The sample daily, weekly and monthly schedule and the easy to cook recipes are helpful as well.

The book was just in perfect timing as our household help arrived with us from Bacolod last Sunday. This is a must read for those who will be hiring for the first time and as a guide for training and keeping household help. The Maid Manual is available nationwide in bookstores and news stands at P195.

Thanks to Summit Media friends for giving me a copy (plus The Yaya Guide, Toddler and Pre-school books, October Good Housekeeping and lots of Smart Parenting magazines!). Up next for review: Smart Parenting – The Yaya Guide, in time for Chickie’s nanny :) .
