Volunteer Work Experience – Hands On Manila Servathon

HOM

I have been doing volunteer work with Hands On Manila (HOM) for more than 5 years now. Servathon is the annual fundraising event where people in the corporate world doing volunteer jobs simultaneously in different locations in Manila. This year is the 9th HOM Servathon and a total of 11,800 students and 120 teachers in four public schools; 400 children in five shelters; 80 patients and 85,000 residents of 29 barangays were served. Whew!

My servathon experiences include painting school classroom walls, making plant boxes, preparing garden plots, cleaning the Manila Bay and the Pasig River. May be next time, I’ll try helping out in building homes.

This is one gathering with HOM sherpas, or commonly known as the volunteer guides, that I wouldn’t want to miss. It is a Bayanihan to make a difference in people’s lives including our own.
